Awareness
Global Warming
Global warming continues to threaten our natural resources with the increasing amount of greenhouse gases emitted into our atmosphere. Global temperatures are expected to increase 3.5 to 8 degrees by 2050, creating droughts, heat waves, and desert vegetation. In addition, water sea levels are expected to rise between 7 and 23 inches by 2100, creating hurricanes, floods, and heavier rainfall. Flooding and rising temperatures increase exposure to infectious diseases by contaminating water supply and breeding grounds for disease-bearing insects. Approximately 20-30% of plant and animal species are likely to be at a higher risk of extinction if increases in global temperatures exceed 1.5 to 2.5 degrees.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Solar Blue is committed to decreasing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into our atmosphere by reducing the amount of energy consumed by our clients. Energy related activities are the primary source of United States greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for over 80% of the total emissions. In 2007, the United States released just under 6 billion metric tons of energy related carbon dioxide into the Earth’s atmosphere. This astounding number accounted for over 20% of the world’s energy related carbon dioxide emissions. The world’s energy related carbon dioxide emissions are estimated to increase by over 50% and reach over 42 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2030.
