The annual energy expense  to run America’s primary and secondary school system  is an overwhelming $7.8 billion. This is more spent on energy than textbooks and computers combined. In addition, the annual energy expense of U.S colleges and universities is almost $14 billion.

The United States Government owns and manages over 3 billion square feet of built property and spends nearly $5 billion to power its facilities. One-third of these  buildings  are guilty of unnecessarily wasting energy. The United States is also home to over 8,000 hospitals, which spend more than $5 billion annually on energy expenses.
